A Fragrant Morning of Early Summer

I have enjoyed a ravishing walk this morning!

The fledgling Sun, caressing the earth with its warming fingers, has coaxed a sweet mist from the rain-blessed grass. Dancing in the sunbeams, the very molecules of water vapour cry out the greatness of our divine Maker.

The young rabbits frolic in the unaccustomed light - nibbling the sweetness of the new grass as an unexpected delight. The swifts exult in their acrobatic endeavours, while the Bedfordshire rooks - solid, awesome, as old as these sandstone hills - contemplate for one last time our fragrant landscape, before lumbering into the sky to visit those chalk downlands to the south.

In the woods, the joyous dance of the dryads can be seen, while the laughter of the nymphs echoes up from the lively, carolling brook. Nature sings the praises of the One who made it.

Meanwhile, I have even greater blessings this morning. With the end of June coming up I've got to get those cash projections in line. I've shut the blinds in the Counting Shed - it's probably better that I can't see out. Man that is born of a woman hath but a short time to live - and he spends most of it ruled by numbers.

  1. Must get a new pair of glasses. Thought you said: "The young rabbis frolic in the unaccustomed light."

The mind boggles - more frequently of late than of yore.

  2. Poetry before breakfast!
    How inspiring.
Reminds me of the Collect for Purity; "by the inspiration (breathing in) of the Holy Spirit". Perhaps I should go for an inspirational perambulation before attempting to compose the final 30 school music reports.

  3. I wondering what you have left unsaid. You had a 'Ravishing' walk this morning? That sounds more like something the Vikings did during their raids on middle England communities.

Are we now to expect the issue of warnings by the Police and a photofit picture of a middle-ages, bespectacled, geeky looking character who is wanted for his 'ravishing walk'.

Burton, you need to keep a low profile in the counting shed for the next 15 years.

  4. I must apologise to you all. It's not often we let Burton loose on the Internet, and normally it's under strict supervision.

On this occasion he's locked himself in the Counting Shed with 3G, and there's not much I can do about it.

  5. I hope he's got his oilskins for when he emerges. The frolicking rabbits have gone to ground and battened down the hatches and the dryads are contemplating a name change.
