We do however have mathematics, but not everyone wants (or needs) to pay the heavy price in terms of time to understand Feynman's path integral formulations (including me!) I still believe there's a big difference between good and bad models though, something about utility and fitness rather than beauty or age, not all models are created equal, just look at Kate Moss!Steve Borthwickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13361597018502017407noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4795284845836270713.post-46456958579434549432013-02-18T12:04:10.246+00:002013-02-18T12:04:10.246+00:00As a person who once aspired to be a scientist, I ...As a person who once aspired to be a scientist, I remember thinking of models as a kind of fraud. You'd work as hard as you could to figure out one, and then someone would come along and say "Oh, that one's not really right, learn THIS one." And eventually someone would say exactly the same thing about the new model and present a newer one.

I know intellectually that each model is a different (and maybe nearer) approximation to the truth, but it doesn't feel that way.Cherylhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17343576593315811633noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4795284845836270713.post-50884374007447725172013-02-18T10:50:47.542+00:002013-02-18T10:50:47.542+00:00Being a non-scientist I tend to talk of facets of ...Being a non-scientist I tend to talk of facets of the truth, but the meaning's the same.Perpetuahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01214396019726161983noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4795284845836270713.post-10321986787812750482013-02-17T21:26:46.770+00:002013-02-17T21:26:46.770+00:00You've stolen my sermon on "The Metaphor ...You've stolen my sermon on "The Metaphor of God Incarnate"!Judyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08279585502913902103noreply@blogger.com
