Defending the Moot House

In Egypt, there are reports of Muslims helping guard the Anglican Cathedral. And of Christians standing guard while Muslims pray.

Which raises 2 questions in my mind:
1) in the event of major civil unrest (always a distinct possibility if you're as close to Luton as we are), could we count on the Moon Gibbon Folk to defend the Moot House?
2) what exactly would be the reciprocal actions the Beaker Folk could take, particularly if the moon was waning already?

Of course, it's clear to all that every member of the Church of England would fall over themselves (himself? herself?) to protect their local mosque/synagogue/temple, given their enthusiastic commitment to multi-faith engagement. However, the other question is how many of them would rush out to the neighbouring parish to protect their colleagues' "bells & smells factory" / "happy clappy hall" (*). Or should we expect pitchforks and torches (the wind-up type, of course: you must think of the environment even when you're marching on your nearest nest of dangerous heresies)?

  1. That's far more typical of Muslims that the picture we get from the press. On both sides, people who aren't extremists tend to find they can get on quite well. Of course, I'm prejudiced; I'm a Methodist and my wife is a devout Muslim.
