A momentary spell of online over-excitement

For a moment there I was going to post something cutting, incisive and witty about the thing the whole religious Internet is up in arms about today. And then I realised that it didn't really matter, and I'd be helping make a mountain out of a Mailhill. Sorry, molehill.

Much is written about social networking and its ability to "out" cheating footballers, have #spartacus moments and bring down governments. But social networking has an essentially responsive nature. So the dead tree press, in particular when it makes socially and religiously divisive claims, is able to drive social networking to a degree far greater than social networking as a whole might like to admit.

So get a grip, Twitter. If you're gonna jump on a bandwagon, at least make sure it's a sensible bandwagon. Preferably your own bandwagon. And that the mildly eccentric but harmless don't get crushed underneath it.

None of the above refers to the eBible Fellowship, of course, which has cost its followers a fortune, learnt none of its lessons and is now using much the same excuses as previously used by the Millerites and the Jehovah's Witnesses. Nice to see they've bought new servers for their website, however. Should keep them going through to the End. Though I wonder whether they're writing them off over five years.
