Today we mark the death in 1794 of Lavoisier - father of modern Chemistry, executed on trumped-up charges by the numpties of the French Revolution. You know your movement has gone seriously wrong when you've run out of aristocrats and priests and you're executing the Chemists. Thanks, Antoine. As the good Chemist, bloke and Catholic you are, you'll be patiently awaiting the final Restoration.
It is also the anniversary of the death of Madame Blavatsky, the theosophist of whom Bertie Wooster's more intellectual girlfriends were so fond. Obviously if Madame Blavatsky were right, she'd be able to mark her own anniversary.
No, apparently not.
