It's the picture of the Hitch-Hiker's Guide on today's Google Doodle that made the penny drop. I referred without thinking to the "phone" then realised it was the Guide.
Consider - the H2G2 is an electronic book. It can update over the sub-ether wavelengths. It has all the knowledge in the universe, with a variable quality, dependent on the researcher. You can hold it in your hands. It streams audio, video and text.
In other words, Douglas Adams predicted the Smart Phone, the Kindle, the App and Wikipedia. The man was a bloody genius. 'Nuff said.
