Here was a man that the adage of Absolute Power, corrupts, absolutely. He started well but as time went on he destroyed his country that he had fought to free from the colonial powers. A peaceful transition after an 11 year war. I remember the people from my unit at the time who went off to Zimbabwe (or Southern Rhodesia) as it was known than to implement the transition. They said what a beautiful country it was, and still is, but suffering from years of oppression. The former bread basket of southern Africa, now a basket case. I hope and pray that things will change, but hardship and hunger is still the norm for many in that country.
