The Obama Code

I am alerted by Undercover Nun to what appears to be a scandal. The President of the United States would appear to have quoted the New International Version of the Bible, and the Fox TV Channel have taken him to task for, as they saw it, misquoting the King James Version.

Far from it - Fox, you have totally misunderstood. You should not have been criticising President Obama for mis-quotation. No, you should have lambasted him in righteous fury for the adoption of a modern, badly-translated, "English" version of the Bible. For adopting the kind of lily-livered liberal attitudes that would, instead of the correct rendering of "pisseth against a wall", refer to "men" (1 Sam 25:22). (In general I shudder to use this word, but on this occasion, since it is in the Good Book, I shall not flinch to publish it). For truly the NIV is the Bible of choice for the so-called evangelical who has verged a little too closely to the liberal way.

In fact it could be worse. From the context, I am unable to discover whether Obama was actually quoting from "Today's NIV" (published a few years ago, hence the name). For surely if he were doing so he would also be approving of men wearing ladies' clothing, women bishops, Elton John and the neutering of the English language.

Enough. I have made myself over-wrought now. I shall take a cold shower, have a calm down and read some passages from the Book of Numbers. I always find that soothes.

  1. Oh, you forgot the fact that Zondervan (publisher of the NIV) is owned by Harper-Collins, which is owned by News Corp... which owns Fox News.

So the dudes on Fox News ripped Obama a new one for using the NIV, which their own employer publishes. Really, I'm surprised they weren't more interested in using the new "translation" from the Conservapedia folks.
