A scarily precise satellite

We've heard the warning now. The Telegraph tells us that a satellite is falling from the sky. In a bizarre headline they tell us that it's a £468 million satellite. That's scarily precise for a falling satellite. Why would cost matter when a satellite fell on your head? You wouldn't think, "that's a £200 bike that just ran into me". To be honest, its six ton weight strikes me as far more relevant than its cost.

  1. Ah, but it's unlikely to fall on your head. If you did perchance see it coming down in the distance, you're more likely to say; "What a waste of £460m," than; "What a waste of 6 tonnes."

  2. Who'd want a cheap satellite to fall on their head? If falling space debris was to be my downfall then I'd want it to be reassuringly expensive.
