Just found Eggbred, just coming in after a spiritual tour of the neighbourhood. Or a walk, as we used to call them.
Eggbred's just seen the hedgehog killed on the road. An innocent and playful creature, as Eggbred points out. Just out for an evening stroll, to find a couple of slugs or maybe a worm. And now it's dead, caught by a Mondeo or, as it may be, a Transit van.
Why, asks Eggbred. Why does this happen? How can this be allowed to happen?
And I have to admit, with all the theology at my fingers, all those years of studying the fine arts of theodicy and divine sovereignty, I just don't know. I just don't know.

Not many tears from the slugs and worms, though. For them the Mondeo or Transit was a mighty saviour from on high. Theodicy is indeed a complex thing.
ReplyDeleteThere are no "why" questions, only "why Ford" questions...
ReplyDeletePastor, you've a strong point there. Life is multi-dimensional and you've always to consider the viewpoint of the under-dog. Although I suspect slugs would not weep salt tears, under any circumstances.
