BUT

Call it the happiness of Mothering Sunday - all those happy people leaving Drayton's chapel clutching daffodils fairly touched the heart-strings. Or call it the half-bot or so of port that I've consumed as part of my celebration of Refreshment Sunday.

But this is a simple instruction, and it's one that, if we all follow it, we may add greatly to the sum of human kindness. And it's this:

When you say something nice about someone, and then you say the word "BUT"... stop there.
