Death of Dick Turpin (1739)

Today we remember the death of one of the original "dandy highwaymen".
There are many pubs down the Watling Street - not so far from here - that claim Dick Turpin drank in them. The Sun in Markyate, for example, is one. Indeed, so many pubs claim this honour that we reckon the late Dick probably only managed a swift half in each.
We were considering, in honour of Dick, a quick trip to York to prove we weren't here. But that's been rejected on the grounds that the famous trip to York wasn't by Turpin at all. So instead Young Keith is going to Stony Stratford - to have plenty of swift halves in each pub. It's what Dick Turpin would have wanted.

  1. If Young Keith comes back telling you a cock & bull story, you'll be sorry.
